Solid Waste District Asks Residents to Delay Recycling

Drop off Recycling Service in Ashtabula County will be interrupted August 1st – 4th while a different contractor assumes the servicing of the sites.  The District asks that residents not recycle during this period to ease the transition.   The District has made arrangements with Waste Management to service the drop offs on a temporary basis.

The District’s current contract was through the end of July 2013.  Although the District notified the Contractor that they would take an optional year to the contract the Contractor was unable to secure a hauler who could provide the service at the contract rate.  The District is unable to maintain the service at a higher cost for an extended period of time. Ashtabula County Solid Waste District is suspending the drop-off recycling program effective August 9, 2013.

The District will be revamping the drop-off recycling program to a more cost effective program that will be more convenient to residents late in 2013. Suspending the recycling program will allow the District to purchase the equipment needed for the new program.

Residents who are committed to recycling may still take materials to the following locations:

  • Ashtabula City Recycling Center, 501 W 24th St, Ashtabula OH  Phone:  993-8101
  • 7 AM – 3 PM M-F, anticipate Saturday hours being added soon.
  • Geneva City Recycling Center, 700 Austin Rd, Geneva OH     Phone: 466-4675
  • 10 AM – 3 PM daily, hours subject to change.
  • WM Geneva Landfill, 2581 Tuttle Rd, Geneva OH   Phone:  466-6481
  • 9 AM – 3 PM M-F, 8 AM – Noon Saturday

Please check with the local centers to find out what materials are accepted and how to prepare materials.  All recycling programs are unique and have different requirements.

Additionally, many communities surrounding Ashtabula County have drop-off sites that may be available to use.  The District’s website www.ashtabulacountyswd.org will have the most up to date information available.  Contact the SWD at 440-576-3777 for additional information.
